You'll remember we noted a few months back that our preferred monotone-sounding wet blanket, Stephin Merritt of the Magnetic Fields was working on a musical adaptation of Neil Gaiman's “Coraline” which unfortunately has nothing to do with the animated film project being directed by Henry Selick (though the brown-wearing enthusiast is working on a movie musical with his Gothic Archies accordionist/ "Lemony Snicket" author Daniel Handler). Well, this theatrical play and its music are done and it's coming this fall. Sounds like it'll be off-Broadway though. No, it's not a film, but maybe Selick will take note when he's done. Plus we sort of adore this Mag Fields curmudgeon. [Variety]
