Spike Lee, Richard Linklater, Albert Maysles & More Directing '30 For 30' For ESPN

ESPN's "30 For 30" program is set to launch this fall, a project teaming filmmakers with sporting events or subjects they care to explore deeply in an hour-long format. Among the names already attached are Spike Lee, Barry Levinson, Albert Maysles, Richard Linklater, Barbara Kopple (Academy Award-winning documentary "Harlan County, USA"), Dan Klores ("Crazy Love") and Mike Tollin ("Arli$$"). First on the docket is Levinson's "And The Band Played On" about the defection of the Baltimore Colts to Indianapolis. Ah, finally something sports and movie fans can watch together [ed. sports? what's that?], because some of us are NOT sitting through the umpteenth showing of "Glory Road." Good way for some of these smaller filmmakers to make a buck and keep going too. [EW] - Gabe Toro
