Have they basically given up?
WTF, seriously. First this morning it's announced — sweet baby Jesus, wow — that Universal Pictures greenlit a live-action musical film for an "untitled Mattel toy property." The toy property was described as "a fresh twist to monster lore" with the film adaptation set to reunite a musical production partnership from "Hairspray." Good god.
Now a "Where's Waldo" movie has been approved, again by Universal. But no, it's for kids as the Mattel project likely (hopefully?) is, so it's somewhat forgivable (kids need films too; plus the little buggers are just an amazing suck on their parent's wallets that studios love).
This one will be however, not animated and is set to be a "live-action family film." We're getting awesome/awful flashbacks to Mike Myers in "The Cat In The Hat." The plot to this one is going to be about... finding? hiding? spotting? Hey, "Hide & Go Seek! The Movie" has anyone pitched that yet cause we could come up with an awesome script.

In the Waldo cartoon, he was a time traveler (based on the fact that he sometimes appears in "historical" scenes).
It would be funny to see Waldo as some kind of social anxiety metaphor. Actually, that would be terrible, too.
I'm still looking foreward to Tetris: The Movie.
How about "13 Waldos" by James Benning?
Waldo and this monster musical should be merged.
And Tetris is completely obvious - teenager stumbles upon cryptic puzzle that he realizes the fate of the world/universe is contingent upon him solving.
This is so fun! I love cartoon picture..
Facebook The Movie! Oh wait, that's actually happening...
JJ Abrams should make "Waldo" just like "Cloverfield."
