It's been a long, long time since John Landis made anything worth a damn, but we've been quietly hopeful that "Burke And Hare" might provide a return to form for the director. The pitch-black comedy stars Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis, with an all-star supporting cast including Isla Fisher, Jessica Hynes, Tom Wilkinson, Hugh Bonneville, Tim Curry and Sir Christopher Lee, and follows the true life story of two 19th century grave-robbers who became serial killers in order to make a quick buck.
Filming started at Ealing Studios in London a few weeks ago, but the shoot just moved up to Edinburgh (where the events depicted took place), and keen eyed paparazzi managed to get some pictures of the leads shooting in Old Fishmarket Close in the centre of the city on Monday. And, you know, it's the two actors, looking bored, as people tend to do on film sets, albeit with some good sideburns.
Nevertheless, many thanks to the reader for the tip-off. You can find more pictures over at The Scotsman, or, if you prefer your celebrity news combined with a heavy dose of homophobia and racism, at the website of the reprehensible British paper The Daily Mail. Please don't click that link. FUN FACT: When this writer briefly lived in Edinburgh, his apartment was near a lap-dancing club named "Burke & Hare." Which is a bit like calling a strip joint in Milwaukee "Jeffrey Dahmer"' (We never went in, honest...).
