James Cameron Not Down With 2D To 3D Film Conversion; "Studios Think They Can Just Turn Movies Into 3D And It's Going To Work"

Speaking of James Cameron and the whole 2D-to-3D, last minute conversion thing...

The "Avatar" director is not down with it, calling it a cheap move that audiences will see right through. "It's typical of Hollywood getting it wrong," he told MTV recently. "We do a film that is natively authored in 3D, shot in 3D, and so they assume from the success of that they can just turn movies into 3D in 8 weeks... throw a switch and that's gonna work somehow."

People are not willing to "accept inferior forms" of 3D Cameron says, noting that the Grammys botched their attempt earlier this year. The always candid director adds that he wishes films like, "Clash of The Titans" (which did the 3D conversion recently) well, "but it's just not the way to do it. If you want to make a movie in 3D, make the movie in 3D."

His best quote might be, "It [also] should be a filmmaker driven process, not a studio-driven process. Now it's being crammed down from above and now people are being told to make movies in 3D, when it should have been the other way around." Now that's an attitude. We forgot James Cameron is kind of like the Sarah Palin of filmmaking.

Cameron also clarified, he didn't actually meet with Marc Webb about 3D "Spider-Man," he just wouldn't mind offering some advice. "It's more like, 'Just don't make the same dumbass mistakes we made for 10 years! Save yourself that.' "

Ironically, he is okay with another medium that just doesn't feel like it can do 3D justice at all. The filmmaker also says that a 3D "Avatar" DVD will hit stores later this year (as will 3D DVD players, Sony has launched their 3D Blu player and its currently available for pre-order), but it will be a bare-bones version and a special edition will come "down the line."

No offense, but the day we're sitting at home wearing 3D glasses is the day we've given up on everything.

We forgot that, did we? We knew it once and then we forgot it? What in the fucking fuck does that even mean?

That Palin comparison is not at all fair.

God, calm down, it was a joke about her outside-the-system rabble rousing. In a way it's supposed to be a compliment. He's a maverick. And I mean that in a good way.

This site is getting on my nerves. It's just so fucking hateful all the time.

You would give up on life if you were to watch a film at home in 3D? What kind of pathetic dumb shite is that?

Christ, find something real to complain about.

RE: 3-D

That is the first time James Cameron has ever not sounded like a total shill and idiot.

As opposed to you Kevin, who complains about a movie blog... Oh yes! Very productive of you...

Cameron makes a valid point, i just hate to agree with the guy who made Titanic AND Avatar, see James... Did we really needed another reason to dislike you?

Yes, I never thought I'd agree with Cameron on anything, but heck, even broken clocks are right twice a day...

3D or not... I think Cameron can dry his eyes with one or two of the 2 billion dollars (according to Reuters: http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE60S11J20100131) Avatar brought in.

I can see his point though....
