New 'Boardwalk Empire' Trailer, Pilot Directed & Series Executive Produced By Martin Scorsese

Yeah, we know we've been repeating it at length, but HBO may just be the most exciting place for original programming right now. We're not going to do the lengthy run down of talent and shows that are in the works, but set aside some time, click the HBO tag below and try and come up with an equal number of studio projects in the coming year that even come close.

Anyway, HBO has dropped their second teaser trailer for "Boardwalk Empire" which debuts this fall. The series, written by "The Sopranos" scribe Terence Winter, uses the book by Nelson Johnson "Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times and Corruption of Atlantic City" as a jumping off point to explore Atlantic City in the roaring '20s. The series will detail the life and exploits of Nucky Thompson, who is based on the real life Enoch "Nucky" Johnson, the "boss" of the Republican political machine that controlled Atlantic City from 1911 to 1941. The ridiculously stacked cast includes Steve Buscemi, Gretchen Mol, Michael Shannon, Michael Pitt, Michael K. Williams and Dabney Coleman. Martin Scorsese directed the pilot and is executive producing the series.

Enough gushing, here's the trailer:

When has this not been the case? And how are you on the fence about this? I can't think of one network that even comes close.
