In a weird, out of left-field marketing tie-in that frankly makes no sense, Warner Bros. is teaming with JC Penny and Olympian Nastia Liukin to create -- wait for it -- Supergirl By Nastia.
The clothing line, which will launch at JC Penney stores on July 20th (apparently, that's when back-to-school season starts though we imagine most kids will be too busy being on summer vacation to want to shop for clothes) will send girls "a message of empowerment, creativity, strength, intelligence and independence" by making them buy pretty, girly stuff.
We're not going to waste much more breath on this terrible, wrongheaded idea but we suppose if we had to choose between buying a little girl a Supergirl t-shirt or some kind of Lady Gaga merchandise, we'd at least have a choice of a lesser evil.

Nastia Liukin said in an interview that after the Olympics, she went on tour and she performed to Supergirl by Saving Jane and that's where it all started with her Supergirl clothing line at JC Penney.
