The trailer for Mark Romanek's highly anticipated film, "Never Let Me Go" is finally online. The Fox Searchlight film is a melancholy, sci-fi-ish (sorta) human drama that has an incredible cast, including Carey Mulligan ("An Education," "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps"), Keira Knightley, Andrew Garfield ("Red Riding" trilogy, "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus"), Sally Hawkins ("Happy Go-Lucky"), Charlotte Rampling, Nathalie Richard, and Andrea Riseborough.
Knightley might be the bigger, well-known actor, but Mulligan is actually the lead and regardless, we have to say this trailer looks excellent. We read the script earlier this year and it definitely captures the dolorous tone therein. Here's the official synopsis, but you should have read about it on our blog several times now.
In his highly acclaimed novel NEVER LET ME GO, Kazuo Ishiguro (THE REMAINS OF THE DAY) created a remarkable story of love, loss and hidden truths. In it he posed the fundamental question: What makes us human? Now director Mark Romanek (ONE HOUR PHOTO), writer Alex Garland and DNA Films bring Ishiguro's hauntingly poignant and emotional story to the screen. Kathy (Oscar® nominee Carey Mulligan, AN EDUCATION), Tommy (Andrew Garfield, BOY A, RED RIDING) and Ruth (Oscar® nominee Keira Knightley, PRIDE & PREJUDICE, ATONEMENT) live in a world and a time that feel familiar to us, but are not quite like anything we know. They spend their childhood at Hailsham, a seemingly idyllic English boarding school. When they leave the shelter of the school and the terrible truth of their fate is revealed to them, they must also confront the deep feelings of love, jealousy and betrayal that threaten to pull them apart. The picture is Romanek's third feature-length film and it follows up 2002's "One Hour Photo" starring Robin Williams. Why the major delay and eight years in between films? Romanek was supposed to helm "The Wolf Man," but wisely walked away when the project was swerving away from his original vision. In 2005 he was also supposed to direct "Cold Case" with Tom Hanks, but that one fell apart two weeks before it was supposed to shoot.
Romanek recently tweeted that the film would be coming out this fall on October 1st. And we must note, the Rachel Portman score is just absolutely lovely. We can't wait to see this. Update: Fox Searchlight has confirmed that the picture is coming out in limited release (or "select theaters" to be completely accurate on October 1.

While I love the trailer and I think Romanek nailed the novel's tone, it is damn spoilery for those who haven't read it.
I can't WAIT! Thank you so much for posting the trailer & anticipated release date.
I'm with you Rotch, trailer is crazy spoilery. I really hope people read the book first - it's so beautiful. I wondered if they'd dance around the content to promo the film but I guess they aren't. Interesting choice. I'm glad I've already read it!
Meh. It reminds me of "An Education" trailer with the Mulligan voice over. I thought the script was boring as hell but again, my girl-crush for Mulligan won't allow me to dismiss this just yet.
Andrew Garfield's yelp into the night made me laugh...that's not a good thing.
I don't think it's a spoiler. And if anything will help attract people to the film.
Even the book synopsis on Amazon mentions the characters fate. The novel is set in the present with the characters looking back, so even the key characters know there is something hidden from them, and they pretty much know what it is.
Can't wait.
@SK
----spoiler---
"We didn't have to look into your souls. We had to see if you had souls at all."
Man, that's one HUGE spoiler.
The whole trailer is spoilish, for those who read the novel you see the end of it!
I'm not normally one to complain about this, but every single person in the trailer is white and content is so insular and lifeless--this is probably the point, but the metaphor comes off as revoltingly heavy-handed--as to be unappealing to me. Run-of-the-mill awards season inertia.
Shame the great cast had to be wasted on something from cliche-king Garland.
Why am I getting a flashback to Altman's Quintet?
I still don't understand why you guys hardly ever link to the official, HD version of the trailers you post. Drives me nuts.
Not what I expected at all. From the synopsis' I heard prior to this trailer, I was expecting a sci-fi movie for some reason. And Portman will never top her Cider House Rules score.
I hate this stupid book with all my being, and I suspect I won't like the movie much more.
God, that looks like they turned a great novel into cheesy Oscar bait with terrible overacting by Mulligan and Knightley.
Andrew Garfield's yelp into the night made me laugh...that's not a good thing.
Looks very bad
That's not Portman's score, at least the final theme; it's from "The Door in the Floor" by Marcelo Zarvos.
Well that sucked.
I found Remains Of A Day boring, but I'll watch this for the cast and because it looks pretty good.
