Zach Braff Threatens To Direct Again; Has A New Script In The Vein Of 'Garden State'

Few films of the early 00's have aged as poorly as "Garden State," Zach Braff's hyper-precocious Gen-Y Me drama. At the time, most of us regarded the film as it deserved to be considered -- tripe -- but even the picture's ardent defenders feel the bloom was off the rose long ago. Fortunately, television has kept Braff from daring to get back behind the camera, but the death of "Scrubs" has suddenly given him more than a little free time.

The skinny-faced television actor revealed in an interview with TimeOutNY that he's got plenty of potential ways to threaten audiences with his insufferable, outdated twee-ness. "There were a couple times I tried to put together a movie, and for one delicious Hollywood reason or another, they never came to fruition. But I’m hoping to direct' Swingles' soon. And I’m in the midst of [writing] my first original since Garden State. I’m also writing a play, because now that I live in New York, I’m infatuated with the theater."

He clarifies the original work is not a sequel to "Garden State," but "more in the 'Garden State' oeuvre." As for "Swingles," it's a long-in-development script that Braff came on to re-write back in May of '09 about a man who seeks an obnoxious woman to serve as his new wingman in the dating scene. Braff was slated to feature in the film as a supporting actor, while the female lead was long linked to Cameron Diaz. TimeOutNY mentions he's likely to shoot "Swingles" this fall, but suggests no ways to persuade him otherwise.

His writing is still better than the unneeded insults you try to iterate in your post. Or do you guys just like to create dramatic/insulting post just to gain more revenue from post like this????

That's an insult to tripe.

I read the first couple of pages of Swingles.

That's where that story ends. Can't someone pick up a few more seasons of Scrubs and spare us all the groans this will inevitably induce?

He looks like such an asshole.

We would gladly mock Zach Braff for free, Mr. Lyndon.

Garden State May have not been anything great but I think it was still very good. I wonder if your opinion would be any diff had it been the same film and hand another director at the helm.

Id save the insults for crappy directors to Tylar Parry, Micheal Bay, Bret Ratner etc...........

P.S: Leah......how is scrubs a decent show again?????

@barry
it's not that I'm a Scrubs fan, it's more hope that if Braff stayed on television screens he'd stay out of movie theatres :)

I think it's fantastic that you call Braff a 'skinny-faced television actor.' Is his face especially skinny-faced? Or are succumbing to your paradoxical need to always use over-description while not being particularly discerning in your writing. Bizarre.

Wow, stop drinking. I can't tell if you're trying to be funny, or if you're just miserable; either way, you're an incredibly annoying writer– and not in a good way. Garden State was excellent, and contrary to what you remember, it garnered similarly excellent reviews. From people who understand film. 7.8 on imdb, 86% on RT, Soundtrack Grammy, etc. Beyond that it was just outright cool– so maybe that's why you didn't get it. I'd like to see someone with your "talents" try to do something as well. Criticism is not your forte, my lonely friend.
