The Playlist Joins IndieWIRE

The Playlist is all grown up, packing its bags and moving. Starting today, you can get all your movie news and updates at our new home at IndieWIRE.

What to expect? Pretty much the same coverage you know, just on a different channel. We're excited to joining the IndieWIRE team and blogging alongside the venerable likes of Anne Thompson, Peter Bogdanovich, Leonard Maltin and the rest of IW's talented crew. The move will allow The Playlist to reach a wider audience than ever before, get better access and maybe even try a new thing or two. It's the grand experiment of 2010 and a new adventure if you will.

The Playlist has always evolved. We were a music e-zine in 2000, a film soundtracks blog in the mid aughts and we've basically grown into the site you know and semi-love today (and/or gripe about on occasion, that's OK too, we'd be boring if it were simply a love fest now wouldn't we?). Maybe we'll finally turn into a food snob blog one day.

It's an exciting (and nervewracking) time for us, but we couldn't have done it without our faithful readers and we thank you for your support over the years. Onwards and upwards, and don't forget to update your bookmarks, etc. (and tell your friends and grandma). Facebook and Twitter feeds will redirect you in the right way if you get lost and sign up for our new RSS feed. So yeah, don't come to this blogspot URL anymore, we'll only be publishing stories now at our new IndieWIRE home.

i’m not quite liking the move…there are always some who resist change, but i’m one of the ones who resist change when it’s for the worst.

i’m much not liking the extraneous distractions the move has brought….the old layout was better….cleaner…much more easier on the eyes....maybe i just have ADD, but i guess i'll just have to learn to tune it all out.

i hope the editorials won’t be toned down.

Congrats.

One question: Will this blog stay up as sort of archive (ie will the links to the old stories still work) or will the old stories go away?

PS: Does that mean you fix the twitter issue too? ...because 3-4 times for every tweet is a tad much.

5 articles a page. Wow, hugely disappointing.

I agree with Anon on the presentation, the new site is kind of bloated. However, I'll still look forward to the new content from the new playlist. If we could get the complete articles from the RSS feed that would be great.

Congratulations. It literally could not have happened to a better film blog. You guys are the best-kept secret in the movie-blog world. A one-stop shop for every bit of relevant film news. If I have time to read only one movie news site in any given day, I simply hop onto Playlist and scroll down the dozen or two notable articles that you guys pump out every single day.

There will be more than 5 posts per page. Just let us work out the kinks in due time. We're just trying to get up and running as it is without slowing down our content.

@Scott, thanks for kind words. Appreciated.

Everyone, we are working on the layout of the blog and your comments are valuable. We will be expanding it so more than 5 posts run on the page at a time and cleaning up the overall layout.

We actually seem to have resolved the Twitter issue but let us know if it persists.

merger . buy-out . leonard maltin. where is the indie?

anon here...thanks, hope you have some control over the layout.

you guys really are the defacto stop for cinema news...this being a site i frequent daily, i just wish to have my eyes less irritated...i work on a computer all day and they can only take so much abuse.

the whole right column is grotesque to the point of repulsive and surprisingly enough, i find the turquoise backdrop not as legible as the plain white "of yore".

and the others are quite right in suggesting that more than five posts should be shown per page.

I can't read you at work now! Your new site is blocked, so no more stealing company time for me. Ass hats. Now I have to work.

i've wondered for a long time now why this site was hosted on blogspot. congratulations, hope this is for the better .

Lawks the new site looks cluttered. We'll see how you guys clean it up in the next few days because it doesn't stat this cluttered the entire time.

Updating the bookmark.

Congratulations on the move, even though I will be missing the old layout. I grew very fond of your quirky news site throughout the past two years or so. I stumbled upon it accidentally through google and just kept coming back to check up on news, I can't think of any other movie site with more consistent and relevant coverage than yours. I'm glad you're getting the recognition you deserve!

Stick around. We'll work out the kinks.

Thanks for all the kind words.

Adios http://theplaylist.blogspot(.)com/ it was so nice to meet you.

don't listen to these quite Anon commenters.

This is my favorite site and I'm happy to see an underdog go to a site that I would frequent more often, had it not been for this site.

Just promise us that the strong journalist who help cover this site will still be involved and corporate pressure won't take away from the amazing editorialization and blogging that happens.

Viva La Playlist!

so its basically slashfilm now?

the biggest selling point you guys had was the clean, easy to read layout of the old site, you might want to try to bring some of that minimalism to indiewire.

Of course we'll still make lists. One happening this Thurs or Friday over at IW.

Congrats,

Good luck on the move but will the old site stay as an archive? I used to love going through all the soundtracks you guys created. Thanks for all the great work

The Playlist said...

11,000 pages. Oof, we'll move some of the archive over. Not clear when we can bring all of it over.

I'll miss this nice blogspot thing you guys had going, but congrats on the "upgrade." (Although I agree with other commenters that the sidebars are a little distracting.)
